Margem

Margem is an independent publishing fair created by students, for students of the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (EBA/UFRJ).

The name “Margem” (meaning “margin” or “shoreline” in Portuguese) reflects both a conceptual and geographical identity, it speaks to the idea of existing at the creative edge, and also references the school's physical location near the coast.

The fair was initiated in 2024 as part of my graduation project, with the primary goal of proposing a dedicated space for independent publishing within EBA/UFRJ. Alongside the fair project, I conducted research and developed reflections on the independent publishing scene — also known as self-publishing — and the broader landscape of graphic fairs in Brazil.
